The Khoi-San were roaming the desert when other civilizations arrived, with their changes and churches, and the Cape of Storms has always been a cosmopolitan mix of cultures. It has not always been a good party. From the French Hugenots battling the landscape to the invading British, to the Apartheid regime of the Afrikaner, there have been plenty of conflicts. But in 1994 change came, when President Nelson Mandela united our country. Sanctions lifted and we regained access to the rest of the world. So come, and bring your camera.”

“Sydney is a leggy blonde of a town, but she’s by no means a bimbo. Beneath the glitzy surface lies a city rich in detail, with a colourful history that defies her youth and shapes her character. She undulates around a sparkling harbour, bounded by the Pacific in the east and a suburban-sea in the west, the enormity of which is best appreciated from the air. It’s a spacious city, half as dense as Toronto or Paris, and its four million diverse citizens enjoy an enviable lifestyle. Main roads still follow aboriginal walking tracks along the ridges of hills and, while the crooked streets can make orientation challenging, the centre of town is surprisingly compact. Public Transport is clean, safe and occasionally on time, though the car is king and everybody drives in Sydney, including children and the blind.”
